The rebel alliance is the 'good side' in rise of the empire, though you can still choose whether to be imperial or rebellion. The rebels have access to a large amount of vehicles, though they cannot build and use a fully functional death star as the empire can.
The notable members of the rebel alliance in the game include: Admiral Ackbar, General Dodona, General Rikken, Mon Motha, Wedge Antilles, Keyan Farlander, Horton Salm, Merrick Simms and Arvel Crynyd.
The alliance has five different squadrons. Each one has a main vehicle and a default leader.
There is the red squadron, led by Wedge Antilles. They pilot mainly X-wings. The gold squadron is led by Keyan Farlander, they mainly pilot BTLA4 Y-wings. The gray squadron, led by Horton Salm and Kin Kian, pilot mainly BTL-S3 Y-wings. The green squadron is led by Arvel Crynyd and they mainly pilot A-wings, while the blue squadron is led by Merrick Simms and mainly pilots B-wings.

The enlisted rebellion ranks are all the same, in the starfighter force, the army and navy. The officer ranks, however, are different. To reach the next rank up, you would have to gain a certain amount of XP points. You gain 20 XP points for every enlisted taken out (TIE's included), 40 for each officer (TIE's included), an extra 10 for each fighter taken out, an extra 50 for each transport taken out, an extra 250 for each capital ship taken out, an extra 1,000 points for each base taken out and an extra 2,000 points for each death star taken out. Keep in mind that you lose that many points for friendly fire. There are also various achievements that you can earn XP from.
You start needing 500 XP to get to corporal, 1,000 to sergeant, 1,500 to warrant officer, etc.
